White
Tea (Silver Needle Tea Yinzhen) |
White
Tea is grown in the high mountains of Fujian province. Like Green tea,
White tea is also an unfermented tea, however the leaves are rapidly fired
and dried resulting in perhaps a purer, more "natural" state.
Only spring-picked buds are used to make the Silver Needle. This freshness
is what researchers from Oregon State University report may cause White
tea to have a greater concentration of polyphenols than Green tea and
therefore may have the strongest anti-cancer potential of any leaf teas.
White tea has the sweet aroma of fresh tea leaves and is unique in quality. In a study of 6,000 Japanese women, those who drank 5 cups or more of green tea per day cut their risk of strokes by 50 percent. White tea had even better results. "Drinking tea with meals in Japan and China," says a cancer researcher at the University of British Columbia, "is thought to be a major reason for low cancer rates in these countries." |
